Connecting GCash & Maya to Your Ponkan Account

If you're selling to customers in the Philippines, accepting GCash and Maya isn't just nice to have — it's essential. These e-wallets are how millions of Filipinos pay for everything from groceries to online purchases.

Ponkan makes it easy to add GCash, Maya, and other local payment methods to your checkout. Once connected, your customers will see these options automatically on every checkout page and invoice.

Why local payment methods matter

Not everyone has a credit card. In the Philippines, e-wallets like GCash and Maya are far more widely used than traditional cards. By offering these options, you:

  • Reach more customers — Many buyers will abandon a purchase if they can't pay with their preferred method
  • Increase conversions — Familiar payment options build trust and reduce friction at checkout
  • Get paid faster — E-wallet payments are processed instantly

Supported payment methods

Ponkan supports a growing list of payment options:

You can enable or disable any of these individually.

How to connect GCash and Maya

Setting up local payment methods takes just a few minutes:

Step 1: Go to payment settings

From your Ponkan dashboard, navigate to Settings > Payments. You'll see a list of available payment methods.

Step 2: Enable GCash

  1. Find GCash in the payment methods list
  2. Toggle it on
  3. Follow the prompts to connect your account or provide the required business details
  4. Click Save

Step 3: Enable Maya

  1. Find Maya in the list
  2. Toggle it on
  3. Complete the connection steps
  4. Click Save

That's it. Both payment methods are now live across all your checkout links and invoices.

What your customers see

Once GCash and Maya are enabled, your customers will see them as options on every payment page. The experience is seamless:

  1. Customer visits your checkout link or clicks Pay on an invoice
  2. They choose GCash or Maya as their payment method
  3. They're redirected to the e-wallet app to confirm payment
  4. Payment is confirmed and they're sent back to your confirmation page

The entire process takes about 30 seconds. No typing in card numbers, no forms to fill out — just tap and pay.

Managing multiple payment methods

You're not limited to just GCash and Maya. Most businesses enable several payment methods to give customers maximum flexibility. Here's what we recommend:

  • For Philippine-focused businesses — Enable GCash, Maya, and cards
  • For international businesses — Enable cards, bank transfers, and regional e-wallets
  • For maximum reach — Enable everything

You can always adjust your enabled methods in Settings > Payments. Changes take effect immediately across all your checkout links and invoices.

Payment processing and settlement

Here's what happens behind the scenes when a customer pays:

  1. Customer pays using their chosen method
  2. Ponkan processes the payment and verifies it
  3. Order is confirmed and the customer gets a receipt
  4. Funds are settled to your account according to your payout schedule

Settlement timing varies by payment method:

  • Cards — Typically 2-3 business days
  • GCash / Maya — Typically 1-2 business days
  • Bank transfers — Varies by bank

You can view all your payouts and settlement details in Settings > Payouts.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a GCash or Maya merchant account?

Ponkan handles the merchant integration for you. You don't need to sign up separately with GCash or Maya — just enable them in your Ponkan settings and the platform takes care of the rest.

Are there extra fees for e-wallet payments?

Transaction fees vary by payment method. You can view the current fee schedule in Settings > Payments. Generally, e-wallet fees are comparable to card processing fees.

Can I accept GCash/Maya on invoices too?

Yes. Any payment method you enable works everywhere — checkout links, invoices, and the customer portal. There's no need to configure them separately for each feature.

What if a customer's payment fails?

Ponkan shows clear error messages to the customer and lets them retry or choose a different payment method. You'll also see failed payment attempts in your dashboard so you can follow up if needed.
